Joshua W. Shuman, PsyD, began his post-secondary education at Franklin College, where he pursued a BA in psychology and journalism. Graduating in 2001, he went on to earn his masters and doctorate in clinical psychology at the Argosy University Georgia School of Professional Psychology. While earning his doctorate, Joshua Shuman completed clinical rotations in Dayton and Troy, Ohio. Over these rotations, he built experience providing mental health services to outpatients and inpatients at the Upper Valley Medical Center. He also provided counseling and wellness services through Wright State University School of Professional Psychology.

After earning his PsyD, Joshua Shuman worked as a staff clinician and then staff psychologist at Miami County Mental Health Center in Dayton, Ohio. There, he maintained a caseload of 20-25 therapy hours per week and provided supervision to a second-year doctoral student. Concurrently to these responsibilities, he served as a neuropsychological psychometrist with neuropsychologist Kathleen Mack, PsyD, on a part-time basis.

In 2008, he left the Miami County Mental Health Center to serve as a Visiting Assistant Professor at Wright State University School of Professional Psychology, where he taught five courses and supervised intakes, assessments, and psychotherapy sessions performed by doctoral students. Leaving his position in 2009, he was hired a staff psychologist for the Dayton Veteran Affairs Medical Center. There, he provided therapy to veterans and their families, and frequently served as a mental health professional on-call for emergency and crisis interventions.
